As the only tertiary center for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Services for the State of Sarawak, O&G Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) features an array of both general and specialised services and clinics to cater to the needs of the public.
Obstetrics
As the largest hospital with O&G services in Sarawak, O&G SGH deals with a high volume of obstetric patients, reaching on average 11,000 deliveries per year. As the only tertiary center for O&G in the state of Sarawak, we are involved in managing pregnancies with varying issues, which includes patients from other hospitals as well (by referral).
Our aim has always been to ensure a safe pregnancy for our patients, which of course includes appropriate management from the antenatal period. This may include involvement of teams from other disciplines as well.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine
The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Unit at O&G SGH is the only specialized clinic in Sarawak dedicated to high-risk pregnancies. We receive referrals from hospitals and clinics across the state, providing expert care for both mothers and babies.
For Your Baby’s Health
We offer a range of services to monitor and protect your baby during pregnancy, including:
- Detailed scans and screenings for high-risk pregnancies
- Advanced testing, like amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling
- Specialized treatments, including fetoscopic surgery when needed
For Your Health as a Mother

Fertility Care & Oncofertility Care
Our Fertility Care services provide a range of treatments, including IVF, to help couples achieve their family-building goals. We offer affordable options through a collaboration between private providers and Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Our Oncofertility Care preserves reproductive potential for cancer patients, managing related complications like hormonal imbalances and menstrual disturbances. We also offer fertility preservation, including sperm cryopreservation, for both men and women, and for pediatric patients. Oncofertility services are also available for non-oncological conditions such as endometriosis.

Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Services
We offer specialized gynecological care for younger females, addressing both common and complex conditions. Our services include:
Pediatric Care:
- Vulvovaginitis & Genital Health: Treatment for vulvovaginitis, infections, and accidental genital trauma.
- Genital Trauma: Management of injuries, including straddle, penetrating, and lacerations, with guidance on surgical needs.
Adolescent Care:
- Menstrual Health: Diagnosis and treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) and menstrual irregularities, including hormonal therapies.

Gynaecological Oncology Unit – Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department
The Gynaecological Oncology Unit is a subspecialty within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at SGH, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancers affecting the female reproductive system. We accept referrals from across Sarawak, particularly for complex cases requiring multidisciplinary care.
Our Services
1. Weekly Clinic Sessions
We hold weekly clinics every Friday morning to assess new cancer referrals and follow up with existing patients. We collaborate with the Radiotherapy Unit (RTU) to co-manage cases requiring chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
2. Colposcopy Services
We perform colposcopy for patients with abnormal smear results or HPV-positive findings, allowing for early detection and treatment.
3. Gynaecological Oncology Surgery
Starting December 2024, we will hold weekly operating theatre (OT) sessions. Due to reduced OT time, we’re also providing surgical services at district hospitals and Pusat Jantung Sarawak to improve access for patients.
4. Monthly Tumour Board Meetings
We host monthly meetings with the Radiotherapy Oncology Unit, Radiology, and Pathology departments to review complex cancer cases and determine the most effective treatment options, prioritizing patient well-being.
